Otoplasty
Since childhood you’ve probably heard more or less mischievous remarks related to the funny shape of your ears. Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that reduces the distance between auricular pavilion and the head, with the purpose of changing the size, position or shape of the ears.
Don’t let time to pass by and schedule for surgery!
When is the best time to perform otoplasty?
The surgery on children is recommended to be done after the age of 7, when they have a reasonable degree of cooperation. Adults should be in good health, preferable – non smokers, with positive attitude and realistic expectations.
Procedure:
Takes for about one hour.
You will need local or general anesthesia, especially for children.
There is no need of overnight hospitalization, but children are preferable to stay under medical supervision for one night. For symmetry, the procedure needs to be done on both ears. At the end of the procedure an elastic bandage, that should be worn for several days, will be applied. This is necessary for sustaining the healing process.
Recovery Period:
You can return to daily activity in 2-3 days after surgery. It is preferable, however, to avoid physical effort for a while. Children can return to their regular routine after a week, but they should be monitored for the following month. For 6 weeks after the surgery is important to protect your ears from extreme temperatures. It is recommended to avoid sleeping on the side.
Risks:
Common complications, similar to any other type of surgery ( bleeding, hematomas, infections). Ear asymmetry, skin irregularities etc.
